SATURDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2009
- CHUN XIANG

After more than two months of intense competition and training, the sportsmen of Hall IV participated in our last fixture for the Inter Hall Games – Swimming. Swim Team Captain, Mark, did an excellent job in putting together a competitive team to represent the Ohmers.

The crowd gathered at the SRC swimming pool by 9 am in the morning. The weather conditions were optimum for an exciting day of swimming heats and finals and our Ohmers swim team was composed and ever ready to give their best.

A total of 5 events were held over the morning. We started our first event with the Men 4×50m Freestyle, represented by Walter, Gary, Hong Ming and Mark. This was to be followed by the Women 4×50m Freestyle, comprising of Elizabeth, Aijia, Karen and Charmaine. Despite a fantastic performance by Elizabeth, both teams were unable to advance beyond the heats due to tough competition from the other halls.

Next to follow were the 4×50m Breaststroke events. The girls’ team improved on their previous performance and narrowly missed out qualification by coming in 4th in their heat and 9th position overall. The boys’ team also put up a good show and their fighting spirit was certainly commendable. However, stiff competition all around made qualification essentially very difficult.

Our last event of the day ended with the 4×50m Mix Medley.

Although the team did not advance to the finals, the experience and camaraderie forged were invaluable. With more training and planning, the Ohmers will definitely come out stronger in the competition next year!
