IHG Update – Softball LP (Hall 4 v Hall 8)

December 20, 2008

DECEMBER 19 2008
- QINWEI

After suffering a defeat in its opening round, Hall 4’s young female softball team looked to pick themselves up and obtain a good result. As anything less than a win will mean the end of the road for the team, the team was in determined mood going into the game. Even a passing shower before the game failed to dampen the spirit of the team.

The game started off well for Team Hall 4, holding the more superior Hall 8 run-less on the first inning. Team Hall 4’s pitcher, Lubin, was in scintillating form as she dealt out strikes to the opponent in succession with some accurate pitching. However, Hall 8 answered back by holding Team Hall 4 to zero as well.

In the second inning, Team Hall 4’s relative inexperience crept into the game. Two mistakes allowed Hall 8 to score 2 runs, and the team failed to capitalise again on its batting turn. A good swing by Hall 8’s batter sent home three more players, pushing the scoreline to 5-0. Coupled with Team Hall 4 zero run, the pressure was on to hold Hall 8 and to start scoring on the fourth inning. In the end, Hall 8’s experience and better skills showed and nailed three more runs to put the results beyond the reach of Hall 4. The game ended 8-0 to Hall 8.

Albeit having scoring no runs, the ladies from Hall 4 exited the competition with their heads high. With many of the players having no prior experience in the game, the team dished out some commendable plays and displayed strong team spirit during the games. All is not lost as the team can look to build on this year’s experience and fight on in next year’s competition.

IHG Update – Water Polo (Hall 4 v Hall 8 – LP)

December 19, 2008

December 18 2008
- TIONG HWEE

Early this morning at the Sports Recreational Centre swimming pool, the Group A Water Polo loser pool match between Hall 4 and Hall 8 commenced.

Our water polo team was in high morale and was determined to win this match against Hall 8, despite the previous upset by Hall 6.  As the game started, both sides were aggressive in the waters. Our very own water polo team showed no signs of backing down in front of the opponents and continued to advance and compete with everything they had. By the end of the short 8-min half, our team had led the opponents by two goals with a score of 5-3.

After a few minutes break, the second half of the match began without delay. Despite the advantage from the first half, our team did not lose focus on the game, remaining calm and cautious with every pass made in spite of the constant pressure from the opponents. Going into the last 20 seconds with the score tied at 7-7, Hall IV scored, bringing the final tally to 8-7!

It was a close fight but fortunately, our team won the match with better team communication, allowing them to proceed to the third preliminary water-polo match of this Inter-Hall Games Season.
